RUSTON, La. (AP) — Raheem Appleby scored 22 points and Jacobi Boykins added 18 and Louisiana Tech beat Central Michigan 89-79 in the opening round of the NIT on Tuesday night.

Appleby led Louisiana Tech (26-8) to its third consecutive NIT opening round win. The senior trio of Appleby, Michale Kyser and Kenneth Smith won their 100th game, the most of any senior class in school history.

CHICAGO (AP) — New York Islanders goalie Jaroslav Halak is sitting out against the Chicago Blackhawks because of a lower-body injury.

Halak, who established the team record and a career-best for wins this season, is listed as day-to-day, the Islanders say. He didn't make the trip to Chicago for Tuesday night's game.
