SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Free-agent running back Reggie Bush has signed a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers.

The team announced the deal Wednesday. Bush had reached agreement Saturday after his visit to team headquarters and Levi's Stadium last Wednesday.

Bush played in only 11 games with nine starts last season for the Lions because of injuries, including an ankle issue. He carried 76 times for 297 yards and two touchdowns....

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Masters champion Bubba Watson has withdrawn from the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Watson informed the PGA Tour on Wednesday that he was pulling out of Bay Hill because of the death of a childhood friend. No other details were immediately available. He is No. 2 in the world, leaving the tournament with four of the top five players in the world ranking.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The NFL has filed a second lawsuit in North Carolina court seeking information from defensive end Greg Hardy's bench trial last summer in which he was convicted on two counts of domestic violence.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday comes on the same day Hardy signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys.

The NFL is asking the judge to inform the Mecklenburg County District Attorney to release material from Hardy's first trial....

LONDON (AP) — Sepp Blatter has rejected the chance to debate with his three FIFA presidential election rivals on live television.

London-based BBC and Sky say they have been told that 79-year-old Blatter wouldn't take part in their planned "fans' congress." Blatter's rivals had quickly accepted the invitation from broadcasters to debate live ahead of the May election.

COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (AP) — Jim Smith has decided to retire after 51 seasons as men's basketball coach at St. John's University in Minnesota.

Smith, 80, announced his retirement to his players on Tuesday afternoon, according to the St. Cloud Times. He finishes with a record of 786-556 at the Division III school.

Smith played at Marquette in the 1950s, and became the St. John's coach before the 1964-65 season. Under him, St. John's made 17 postseason...

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Sparks have re-signed center Jantel Lavender.

She averaged career highs of 11.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists while starting a career-high 27 games last season. Lavender had four double-doubles.

She heads into this season with a streak of 106 straight games played, and she ranks second in franchise history with a .513 field goal percentage.

KAPALUA, Hawaii (AP) — Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway has been chosen as the winner of the Byron "Whizzer" White Award, given annually by the NFL Players Association for exceptional community service.

The award was presented Wednesday at the NFLPA's meetings in Maui. It came with a $100,000 donation to Greenway's Lead the Way foundation, which has raised $1.3 million since 2008 for ill and physically challenged children in the Twin Cities area....
