HOUSTON (AP) — Houston right-hander Scott Feldman is expected to miss about six weeks after arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
Feldman was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday after having surgery to repair a torn medial meniscus. He was injured fielding a ground ball in his last start on Tuesday. Feldman, who is in his second year in Houston, is 4-4 with a 4.80 ERA in 10 starts this year.
GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Morgan Pressel closed with a birdie and an eagle for a 5-under 66 and a one-stroke lead Friday after the first round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic.
The 27-year-old Pressel, seeking her first LPGA Tour win since 2008, held the advantage over Anna Nordqvist of Sweden, Alena Sharp of Canada, rookie Min Lee of Taiwan and American Ryann O'Toole on the Bay Course at Stockton Seaview, where the weather was near-perfect.
IRVING, Texas (AP) — Jordan Spieth surged into contention on a day the Masters champion isn't sure he will see again at his hometown AT&T Byron Nelson.
Spieth and every other early finisher within three shots of the lead had a birdie 2 on what was supposed to be the par-4 14th Friday. An overnight rain storm turned one of the signature holes at the saturated TPC Four Seasons into a pitch-and-putt par 3 at 105 yards.
NEW YORK (AP) — Mylute overcame a hard bump at the start to capture his season debut Friday, the $85,000 allowance feature at Belmont Park.
Now a member of the Todd Pletcher barn, Mylute regrouped to beat Lucky Lotto by 2 1/4 lengths as the 4-5 favorite. He was trained by Tom Amoss in his previous races, including a third in the 2013 Preakness.
John Velazquez was aboard the 5-year-old for the mile in 1:35.03 on the fast track.
