BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — William Lee scored 16 points with 10 rebounds to help UAB handle Marshall 72-54 on Saturday night.

Chris Cokley added 11 points and 13 boards for UAB (15-13, 11-4 Conference USA), which overcame a slow start to pull within one game of conference leader Louisiana Tech.

UAB didn't record a field goal in the first 4:55, but trailed just 7-4 at that point when Hakeem Baxter scored the first bucket of the night for the Blazers....

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Eric Washington scored 21 points and Miami (Ohio) beat Akron 57-52 on Saturday night.

Will Sullivan made a 3-pointer to give the RedHawks a 51-50 lead in overtime and Washington made two free throws with 23 seconds left. Jake Kretzer scored for the Zips with eight seconds left before Washington and Chris Bryant sank two free throws apiece to secure the win.

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Max Guercy and Seth Gearhart combined to score 49 points and Rice fended off Florida Atlantic from the free-throw line to secure a 76-69 win Saturday.

Rice (10-16, 7-7) is battling for one of four remaining spots in the Conference USA tournament. Eight teams have clinched berths, including North Texas, which clinched by beating Florida International on Saturday.

TOKYO (AP) — Endeshaw Negesse won the Tokyo Marathon on Sunday, leading an Ethiopian sweep of the men's and women's titles in the first event of the World Marathon Majors series.

Negesse crossed the finish line with a time of 2 hours, six minutes to finish 33 seconds ahead of Olympic champion Stephen Kiprotich of Uganda. Defending champion Dickson Chumba of Kenya was third in 2:06:36.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Jalan West hit a shot from just past half court as time expired in the first half and banked in a 3-pointer at the final buzzer to give Northwestern State an 87-84 come-from-behind victory over New Orleans on Saturday night.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Darious Moten had 15 points and Ike Nwamu blocked a shot in the final second to secure Mercer's 62-61 victory over Samford on Saturday night.

MIAMI (AP) — Eric Gordon scored 16 of his 24 points in the third quarter and, even after losing Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson to injuries, the New Orleans Pelicans had no trouble beating the Miami Heat 105-91 on Saturday night.

JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Frederic Dure scored the game-winning shot with 5.6 seconds left as Arkansas State knocked off Sun Belt Conference leader Louisiana-Monroe 70-68 on Saturday night.

Louisiana-Monroe (18-9, 12-4) drops into a three-way tie for first place with Georgia Southern and Georgia State, which both won Saturday. Arkansas State (10-15, 5-11) snapped a five-game losing streak.
