DALLAS (AP) — Kyle Nobach hit a tiebreaking double in the eighth inning, and Oregon State beat Texas 5-4 in the first round of the Dallas Regional on Friday.

Nobach also singled home a run in the fourth inning to give the Beavers (39-17-1) a 2-1 lead.

NEW YORK (AP) — The Miami Marlins have claimed pitcher Chad Smith off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels and sent him to Triple-A New Orleans.

The Marlins made the move Friday.

Miami manager Dan Jennings, the Marlins' general manager until taking over in the dugout this month, said the 25-year-old Smith would provide bullpen depth for the organization.

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston right-hander Scott Feldman is expected to miss about six weeks after arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.

Feldman was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Friday after having surgery to repair a torn medial meniscus. He was injured fielding a ground ball in his last start on Tuesday. Feldman, who is in his second year in Houston, is 4-4 with a 4.80 ERA in 10 starts this year.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals activated outfielder Jon Jay from the 15-day disabled list but did not have him in the lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Jay was sidelined May 11 with left wrist tendinitis. While he was out, Randal Grichuk and Peter Bourjos stepped up and both were in the lineup.

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Morgan Pressel closed with a birdie and an eagle for a 5-under 66 and a one-stroke lead Friday after the first round of the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Jordan Spieth surged into contention on a day the Masters champion isn't sure he will see again at his hometown AT&T Byron Nelson.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) — The NCAA regional opener between Missouri State and Canisus was postponed Friday night because of rain. It will be played Saturday as part of a tripleheader.

The winner will play Iowa, a 3-1 winner over Oregon. The loser will face Oregon.

Missouri State is 45-10, and Canisus 34-28.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Logan Ratledge hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning and North Carolina State beat Stony Brook 3-0 on Friday in their NCAA regional opener.

NC State (35-21) will face the Texas Christain-Sacred Heart winner Saturday. Stony Brook (34-15-1) will play the loser.

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Lakers have completed the purchase of five acres that will be the site of their new team headquarters.

The Lakers announced the completion of the deal Friday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Mylute overcame a hard bump at the start to capture his season debut Friday, the $85,000 allowance feature at Belmont Park.

Now a member of the Todd Pletcher barn, Mylute regrouped to beat Lucky Lotto by 2 1/4 lengths as the 4-5 favorite. He was trained by Tom Amoss in his previous races, including a third in the 2013 Preakness.

John Velazquez was aboard the 5-year-old for the mile in 1:35.03 on the fast track.
