DOUALA, Cameroon (AP) — The son of a sultan from northern Cameroon, Issa Hayatou has ruled African soccer for 27 years and counting, a decade longer than Sepp Blatter has been in charge of FIFA.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kristi Toliver suffered with every loss as the Sparks got off to their worst start in franchise history.

PHOENIX (AP) — Cliff Pennington's sacrifice fly to deep left field drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Colorado Rockies 4-3 on Friday night.

SEATTLE (AP) — Tyrone Mears scored in the 88th minute for his first MLS goal, leading the Seattle Sounders to a 1-0 victory over the short-handed D.C. United on Friday night.

Mears, a defender in his first season in the league, was outside the top right corner of the penalty area when a ball was headed away from the net toward that spot. Mears took it just inside the box and fired into the left side of the next past goalkeeper Andrew Dykstra.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Michael Bourn drove in three runs, Brandon Moss homered and Trevor Bauer pitched effectively into the seventh inning as the Cleveland Indians beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5-2 on a rainy Friday night in a game that stretched past midnight.
