SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers are likely to land a quarterback on the final day of the NFL draft.

Even now with it looking as if Colin Kaepernick will stay put and is guaranteed $11.9 million for the 2016 season. Super Bowl champion Denver, which had been in talks to trade for him, drafted Paxton Lynch as the likely heir apparent to Peyton Manning.

Kaepernick, demoted in favor of Blaine Gabbert in November, is recovering from...

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Cardinals had to wait for hours to make their lone Friday pick in the NFL draft. They figured to be a lot busier in the draft's final day on Saturday.

And general manager Steve Keim says he's confident that players can be found who will become important parts of a team already expected to be a contender.

Cornerback Brandon Williams of Texas A&M was chosen by Arizona late in the third round Friday night. The...

ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — The Raiders spent their first three draft picks on a safety and two defensive ends. That doesn't mean that coach Jack Del Rio and general manager Reggie McKenzie are done addressing the defense.

Oakland has five picks over the final four rounds Saturday and still has a need at middle linebacker after releasing last year's starter Curtis Lofton in the offseason. The team may also look to add depth at cornerback and safety despite using its first-...

SAN DIEGO (AP) — General manager Tom Telesco claims the San Diego Chargers don't rank their needs during the draft, which means they'll probably be going in every direction imaginable during the final four rounds.

The Chargers will have five picks Saturday, which Telesco calls "the fun day."

"It goes fast. Picks come off quickly. This is where you make your money," Telesco said. "If there's starters on the board tomorrow, we have to find them. That's...

RENTON, Wash. (AP) — John Schneider and the Seattle Seahawks have checked off the list of needs through the first two days of the NFL draft.

They took a pair of offensive linemen, added depth at running back and tight end and found a run-stuffing defensive tackle that slipped to the middle of the second round.

As the final day of the draft begins Saturday, the Seahawks will have four picks. Seattle first selection isn't until No. 171 in the fifth...

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — The Super Bowl champs have a half-dozen picks on the final day of the NFL draft after using their top three selections to plug big holes.

General manager John Elway added defensive tackle Adam Gotsis of Georgia Tech in the second round and versatile safety Justin Simmons of Boston College in the third round on Day 2.

He selected his QB of the future, Memphis' Paxton Lynch, in Round 1.

Those players fill...

LOS ANGELES (AP) — After using a big chunk of their resources to land the biggest prize in the NFL draft, the Los Angeles Rams are ready to add some more pieces.

The Rams didn't have a pick in the second or third rounds because they gave up those selections to get their new franchise quarterback. Los Angeles chose Jared Goff with the first overall pick, sending a package of six picks to Tennessee to move up.

But the Rams have two fourth-round picks...

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) — When he took over the Chicago Bears in 2004 and again this spring when Illinois hired him, Lovie Smith broke new ground that came with his title. In each case, he was the team's first black head coach.

His childhood in East Texas prepared him for both jobs.

As a fifth-grader in Big Sandy, Smith was part of the first group of black kids to move into the small town's newly desegregated schools in the late 1960s....
