JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Julius Thomas is moving closer to making his season debut.

Thomas practiced Wednesday without a cast for the first time since breaking his right hand in the preseason opener Aug. 14, but he still hasn't been cleared to play.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — As Kevin Durant prepares to play his first NBA game in eight months, the Oklahoma City star says it feels like his absence has been a lot longer than that.

Durant will play in the Thunder's preseason opener in Minnesota on Wednesday night. He spoke to reporters after the team's morning shootaround and says that "it seems like it was years ago."

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears have promoted safety Demontre Hurst from the practice squad to the active roster.

Hurst has appeared in 16 games for Chicago over the past two seasons. He has 36 defensive tackles, one interception and one forced fumble along with nine special teams stops.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana Pacers signed former Rutgers start Kadeem Jack on Wednesday.

Adding the 6-foot-9, 235-pound forward to the roster gives the Pacers 18 players in training camp.

Jack joins first-round draft pick Myles Turner, second-round picks Joe and Rakeem Christmas and C.J. Fair as the only rookies in camp. Christmas was acquired in a trade with Cleveland.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — The Rutgers University football team has reinstated wide receiver Leonte Carroo after charges against him were dropped.

The school announced the decision Wednesday, a day after a judge dismissed simple assault charges.

Coach Kyle Flood says Carroo agreed to some undisclosed conditions and "accepted the responsibility" that comes with his return to the team.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia safety Karl Joseph will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a right knee injury in practice.

Coach Dana Holgorsen said Wednesday that the senior was injured in a non-contact drill during practice Tuesday.

ROME (AP) — Lance Armstrong's former physician has reportedly filed a lawsuit aiming to halt distribution in Italy of a movie about the disgraced cyclist.

The ANSA news agency reports that lawyers for Dr. Michele Ferrari have requested that the "The Program" — due to be released in Italy on Thursday — be sequestered from distributor Videa and are seeking damages.

Lawyers say Ferrari never administered EPO to Armstrong.
