CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs and thousands of fans will honor the late Ernie Banks during the team's season opener against the St. Louis Cardinals this weekend.

The Hall of Famer known as "Mr. Cub" died in January at the age of 83.

KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. (AP) — Tomas Berdych advanced Tuesday to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open when Gael Monfils fell and hurt his hip.

FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) — Lawyers involved in the murder trial of former New England Patriots player Aaron Hernandez say they expect the case to wrap up next week.

The trial began Jan. 29 and was estimated to last six to 10 weeks.

Prosecutors are still putting on their case against the former star tight end, who pleaded not guilty in the June 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee.

Kentucky Derby hopeful Far From Over has been sidelined with a leg injury and is off the Triple Crown trail.

The 3-year-old trained by Todd Pletcher was scheduled to run in Saturday's Wood Memorial at Aqueduct Racetrack on Saturday. But a fractured left rear leg was found following a workout in Florida over the weekend.

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Rays have released infielder Alexi Casilla.

The veteran infielder, who signed a minor league contract with Tampa Bay in February, was batting .267 in 17 spring training games.

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — In the strongest indication that Tiger Woods might play the Masters, a newspaper reports that his private plane has been spotted at a local airport.

The Augusta Chronicle reported Tuesday that a plane matching the tail number of his Gulfstream G5 was parked at the terminal for private aircraft at Augusta Regional Airport. A spokesman for Woods didn't immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press.
