ST. LOUIS (AP) — New Saint Louis coach Travis Ford signed his first recruit, 6-foot-7 forward Jalen Johnson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Johnson helped University Laboratory School win the Class 3A title last season, averaging 21.8 points and 8.3 rebounds. He was the MVP of the state title game after scoring 28 points on 9-for-12 shooting.

PRATTVILLE, Ala. (AP) — Laetitia Beck took the first-round lead in the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic, dodging some of the wind Thursday morning in a bogey-free 7-under 65.
The 24-year-old Beck, the first Israeli player to qualify for the LPGA Tour, was in the first group of the day off 10th tee. She birdied four of the final five holes on her opening nine in calmer conditions, and had three more — two on par 5s — on the windier second nine.
CHICAGO (AP) — World Cup champions Brandi Chastain and Shannon MacMillan, and MLS Commissioner Don Garber have been elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Chastain, who scored the winning goal in the 1999 World Cup final shootout against China, was selected on the player ballot. MacMillan, her teammate on that squad, was voted in on the veteran ballot. Garber was chosen on the builder ballot.

NEW YORK (AP) — Washington's Barry Trotz, Dallas' Lindy Ruff and Florida's Gerard Gallant are the finalists for the Jack Adams Award as the NHL coach who has "contributed the most to his team's success."
Members of the NHL Broadcasters' Association voted at the end regular season, with the top three designated as finalists Thursday. The winner will be announced June 22 during the NHL Awards in Las Vegas.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have signed punter Lachlan Edwards, their seventh-round draft pick, and waived wide receiver Joe Anderson, who made headlines by standing outside Houston's stadium with a sign looking for an NFL job last season.
Edwards, from Sam Houston State, is the first of the Jets' seven picks to sign. He will compete with fellow Australian Tom Hackett, who signed as an undrafted free agent.
