ST. LOUIS (AP) — Matt Holliday is back on the disabled list.

The St. Louis Cardinals placed the All-Star outfielder on the 15-day disabled list Thursday because of a recurrence of his right quadriceps injury.

Holliday was hurt running to first base in the first inning on Wednesday. He missed 31 games from June 9 to July 16, and the Cardinals were 18-13 in his absence.

STOCKHOLM (AP) — Orlando Ortega of Cuba beat a strong field to win the men's 110-meter hurdles at the Diamond League meeting in Stockholm, as world champion David Oliver had to settle for third on Thursday ahead of his title defense in Beijing next month.

MIAMI (AP) — Max Scherzer scattered three hits over seven innings, Jonathan Papelbon got his first save for Washington with a perfect ninth inning and the Nationals beat the Miami Marlins 1-0 on Thursday.
