TORONTO (AP) — A year after Stephen Curry had a record 27 points in the final round of the 3-point contest to beat Golden State Warriors teammate Klay Thompson, the latter is coming in with confidence on All-Star Saturday.

Thompson knows how good Curry is, so he couldn't have been terribly surprised when he was told during NBA All-Star player interviews that "everyone" thinks Curry is going to win the 3-point contest Saturday night.

KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan (AP) — Top-seeded Venus Williams beat Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 7-5, 6-3 on Saturday to advance to the final of the Taiwan Open.

Williams, who improved to 3-0 against Putinseva, converted five of eight break points and survived 12 double faults against the third-seeded player.

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) — Lydia Ko will take a one-stroke lead into the final round of the New Zealand Women's Open after shooting a 5-under 67 Saturday.

The South Korean-born New Zealander, who is defending her national title, started the day in a tie for fifth after an opening 69. On Saturday, she had six birdies and a bogey which moved her one shot ahead of Justine Dreher of France, who shot 70.

YUZAWA, Japan (AP) — Alexis Pinturault led a 1-2 finish for France in the men's World Cup giant slalom on Saturday.

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Erica McCall had 12 points and No. 13 Stanford used quick starts in both halves on Friday night to win its fifth straight, 82-58 over Arizona.
