DETROIT (AP) — Jack Nicklaus will participate in a pro-am golf tournament to help raise money for Detroit schools.

Cornerstone Schools said Thursday it hopes to bring in $3 million from the tournament headlined by the golf great. The goal is $50 million, aimed at increasing the number of students to 5,000 at the not-for-profit schools.

More than 2,800 students are enrolled in preschool through 12th grade at one independent and four charter schools....

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Coastal Carolina capitalized on two errors on the same play for four unearned runs in the sixth inning, and the Chanticleers won their first national championship in any sport with a 4-3 victory over Arizona in Game 3 of the College World Series finals on Thursday.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia Phillies minor league pitcher Matt Imhof has lost his right eye after a freak accident with exercise equipment.

Imhof said in an Instagram post Thursday that he had surgery Tuesday to remove the eye. He said the first operation couldn't restore his vision and he opted to have a prosthetic put in.

The 22-year-old left-hander was a second-round pick in 2014 out of Cal Poly. He was pitching for Single-A Clearwater....

NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities in New York City have cracked down on an internet gambling ring they say took in nearly a billion dollars in illegal wagers on pro football.

Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson announced corruption enterprise and other charges on Thursday against four men from California and New York.

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — The Washington Capitals have signed right wing Tom Wilson to a $4 million, two-year contract.

Wilson will count $2 million against the salary cap over the length of the deal. He will earn $1.75 million next season and $2.25 million in 2017-18.

Oklahoma cornerback Jordan Thomas was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of public intoxication, assault and battery, and interference with official process.

According to police in Norman, Oklahoma, Thomas was picked up at 1:49 a.m. A Cleveland County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman said the 20-year-old Thomas was booked into jail at 2:45 a.m. and released at 11:13 a.m.

A school spokesman said Oklahoma is "aware of it and will monitor the situation...

MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired veteran pitcher Bud Norris from the Atlanta Braves.

The move Thursday comes on the same day the Dodgers said ace Clayton Kershaw will be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a back injury
