NICE, France (AP) — Dominic Thiem held his nerves to win his first ATP tour title on Saturday as he completed a tight 6-7 (8), 7-5, 7-6 (2) victory over fourth-seeded Leonardo Mayer in the final of the Open de Nice.

The 21-year-old Thiem, who defeated second-seeded John Isner in the semifinals, hit seven aces and fended off all six break points to come out on top of a nearly-three hour match at the French Open warmup tournament.

GENEVA (AP) — Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil won the revived Geneva Open title on Saturday, beating sixth-seeded Joao Sousa of Portugal 7-6 (4), 6-4.

The 27-year-old Bellucci's fourth career ATP title was his third in Switzerland. He also won on clay at the Swiss Open in Gstaad in 2009 and 2012.

Bellucci, a 60th-ranked left-hander, wasted three set points at 5-4 in the first before winning the tiebreaker.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Oakland Athletics have placed outfielder Coco Crisp on the 15-day disabled list with a cervical strain and recalled right-hander Kendall Graveman from Triple-A Nashville.

The moves were announced before Saturday's game against Tampa Bay.

Crisp hit .044 in 13 games this year. He began the season on the DL after having surgery on his right elbow and returned May 6.

STRASBOURG, France (AP) — Third-seeded Samantha Stosur rallied to beat Kristina Mladenovic 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the final of the Strasbourg International on Saturday, claiming her first title of the year.

The 26th-ranked Stosur, a former French Open runner-up, is returning to form after reuniting last month with former coach David Taylor.

Before Strasbourg, where she won a seventh career title, Stosur had won only eight matches in 2015....

VALDOBBIADENE, Italy (AP) — Alberto Contador outclassed his rivals on a tough individual time trial Saturday to reclaim the overall lead of the Giro d'Italia after the 14th stage, which was won by Vasil Kiryienka.

Contador started the day 19 seconds behind Fabio Aru after a crash at the end of the previous stage saw him lose the pink jersey. A fantastic ride through another rain-affected stage saw the Spaniard finish third and move 2 minutes, 28 seconds ahead of Aru....

NUREMBERG, Germany (AP) — Karin Knapp defeated fellow Italian Roberta Vinci 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-1 to win the Nuremberg Cup final on Saturday.

The sixth-seeded Knapp forced 17 break points and converted seven — three of those in the final set — to beat her fourth-seeded compatriot in 2 hours, 6 minutes.

VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) — Miguel Angel Jimenez hit a record 10th hole-in-one on the European Tour during his third round at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth on Saturday.

The Spaniard surpassed Colin Montgomerie's tally of nine when he holed his tee shot from 148 yards at the par-3 No. 2 at the European Tour's flagship event.

TOKYO (AP) — A Japanese university baseball team has finally ended its 94-game losing streak, winning Saturday for the first time in five years.

The University of Tokyo beat Hosei University 6-4 at Tokyo's Jingu Stadium in its first victory since Oct. 2, 2010.

MONACO (AP) — French driver Romain Grosjean has been handed a five-place grid penalty at the Monaco Grand Prix because of an unscheduled gearbox change.

Race regulations stipulate that drivers have to complete six consecutive races before they are allowed to change gearboxes. Monaco is the sixth race of the season.

Grosjean had to change his gearbox after encountering problems late in the Spanish GP two weeks ago, motorsport's governing body FIA said...

MONACO (AP) — Formula One champion Lewis Hamilton clinched his first ever pole at the Monaco Grand Prix after a strong drive Saturday while his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg will start from second as he bids to win the race for the third straight year.

In last year's race, Rosberg took pole but angered Hamilton when he crashed under no apparent pressure right at the end of the session, bringing it to a halt just as Hamilton was poised to beat his time....
