ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis Rams reserve running back Trey Watts has been suspended without pay for the first four games of the season for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy.

Watts, a two-year veteran, will be eligible to return to the active roster Oct. 5. He is eligible to participate in offseason and preseason practices and games.

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) — Police have charged Atlanta Falcons linebacker Prince Shembo with aggravated animal cruelty after his girlfriend's dog died from blunt force trauma.

Gwinnett County police said in a news release that they obtained a warrant Friday for the NFL player's arrest.

Cassill and his wife Katie celebrated the birth of Beckham Bear Alan Cassill on Wednesday.

DENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies prospect David Dahl had surgery to repair his spleen after a collision in the outfield during a game Thursday in New Britain, Connecticut.

Dahl was in centerfield for Double-A New Britain and was racing in to make a sliding catch on a blooper when he crashed into second baseman Juan Ciriaco. Dahl stayed down for several moments before being taken to a hospital, where he underwent surgery.

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Big 12 schools will split up a record $252 million in revenue, the ninth year in a row of increases.

The revenue total for the 10 schools, up from $220 million last year, was revealed Friday at the end of the conference's spring meetings.

Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech will get average full shares of about $25.6 million for the 2014-15 academic year.

DETROIT (AP) — James Hinchcliffe's team is hopeful the IndyCar driver can be back by the beginning of August after his crash at Indianapolis.

Hinchcliffe had surgery May 18 after crashing during practice for the Indianapolis 500. The broken wishbone section of the suspension pierced the car's protective tub and wounded Hinchcliffe's left leg, causing massive blood loss.

CHICAGO (AP) — Alex Rios is expected to return to the Kansas City Royals' lineup for Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs following 1 1/2 months on the disabled list with a broken left hand.
