PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Pirates claimed first baseman Travis Ishikawa off waivers from the San Francisco Giants on Sunday.

Ishikawa, 31, was 0 for 5 in six games for the Giants this season. He also hit a combined .266 with four home runs and 20 RBIs in 37 games with Triple-A Sacramento and Class A San Jose.

Ishikawa was the Pirates' opening day first baseman last season, but was designated for assignment April 19.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dodgers starter Carlos Frias has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with lower back tightness, although the right-hander isn't expected to be there too long.

Frias had been scheduled to start Monday when Philadelphia comes to town for the start of a four-game series. He had experienced lower back stiffness in his past two starts, and only went five innings in both.

ATLANTA (AP) — The Philadelphia Phillies have acquired the No. 1 overall international signing slot for the 2015-16 signing period in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Diamondbacks obtained two minor league pitchers — right-hander Chris Oliver and left-hander Josh Taylor — and the No. 9 overall signing slot.

The 21-year-old Oliver is 3-3 with a 4.33 ERA at Class A Lakewood. The 22-year-old Taylor is 4-4 with a 4.56 ERA at Lakewood....

CHICAGO (AP) — The Miami Marlins activated 1B Michael Morse from the 15-day disabled list making him available to come off the bench in Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs, though he wasn't in the starting lineup.

Morse joined the team in Chicago following a 12-game rehab stint. During his rehab assignment, Morse hit .263.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — St. Louis left-hander Jaime Garcia has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a groin strain.

Garcia, who missed his previous scheduled start, suffered the injury running the bases on June 24 at Miami.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles activated second baseman Jonathan Schoop from the 60-day disabled list on Sunday.

Schoop hit .259 with three home runs and seven RBIs in nine games to begin the season before he went on the 15-day disabled list on April 18 for a sprained right knee.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs activated outfielder Jorge Soler from the 15-day disabled list in time for Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins and optioned outfielder Matt Szczur to Triple-A Iowa.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Fans at Daytona International Speedway are defending and displaying their Confederate flags.

BOSTON (AP) — David Ortiz will be using his glove to start a game in Fenway Park for the first time in nearly 10 years.

Boston's regular designated hitter is playing first base and batting cleanup Sunday. He hasn't started a non-interleague game at first since Aug. 5, 2006, when the Red Sox played at Tampa Bay.

This is his first start at first base in Fenway since July 16, 2005, when he started against the New York Yankees.
