NEW YORK (AP) — Actor and talk-show host Joel McHale will be the host of the annual ESPY Awards show in July.

The irreverent sports awards show, created by ESPN, is actually being shown on sister network ABC on July 15. ESPN said Friday the show will take place in the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

McHale is known for hosting "The Soup" talk show and for playing student Jeff Winger on the NBC comedy "Community."

VIANA DO CASTELO, Portugal (AP) — Race organizers of the Rally of Portugal have canceled a stage on Friday because of forest fires.

Organizers canceled the 27.53-kilometer (17.1-mile) stage around the town of Ponte de Lima near the northern border with Spain "because of nearby forest fires."

That was scheduled to be the day's fourth stage.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Carlos Huertas has been ruled out of the Indianapolis 500 two days before the race after he was diagnosed with an "inner ear condition" and failed to pass a medical exam.

Dr. Terry Trammell, IndyCar's medical consultant, said in a statement Friday that the 23-year-old Huertas will need further evaluation before being cleared to return to competition.

The exact nature of his condition was not disclosed.

LONDON (AP) — Boston and U.S. Olympic leaders will travel to Switzerland next week to sound out the IOC about their struggling candidacy for the 2024 Summer Games amid a leadership shake-up at the top of the bid.
