LONDON (AP) — American boxer Charles Martin will defend his IBF heavyweight title against Britain's Anthony Joshua in London on April 9.

The fight was announced on Sunday by Joshua's promoters.

The IBF belt was vacated by Tyson Fury last year and was taken by Martin when he beat Vyacheslav Glazkov in New York last month.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — New York Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka has gotten through his first mound session since October elbow surgery problem-free.

Tanaka reported no issues Sunday to Yankees pitching coach Larry Rothschild one day after a 20-pitch session at Steinbrenner Field. He had the arthroscopic procedure to remove a bone spur from his right elbow.

ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) — Martin Klizan rallied past fifth-seeded Gael Monfils 6-7 (1), 6-3, 6-1 to win the indoor World Tennis Tournament on Sunday.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Weldon Kirui pulled away in the final mile as Kenyan men swept the top three spots at the Los Angeles Marathon on a foggy Sunday.

The 27-year-old Kirui raced shoulder-to-shoulder with Willie Koitile until making his surge over the final mile, winning in a time of 2 hours, 13 minutes, 7 seconds.
