Senior transfer Vernon Adams is listed atop Oregon's depth chart at quarterback heading into the first week of the season.

Adams, an FCS All-American, just joined the No. 7 Ducks two weeks ago after passing the final math class he needed to graduate from Eastern Washington.

On the depth chart released Friday, Adams was listed above Jeff Lockie, who was Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Mariota's backup last season.

ATLANTA (AP) — New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is still out of the lineup while he deals with a bruised right shin.

Teixeira is unable to run and isn't starting Friday night at Atlanta.

ENDICOTT, N.Y. (AP) — Paul Goydos and Gene Sauers shared the first-round lead at 6-under 66 on Friday in the Champions Tour's Dick's Sporting Goods Open.

John Huston, who won this tournament four years ago, was a stroke back along with Ian Woosnam.

Peter Senior, a late addition to the field, was another shot back and tied for fifth with Bob Friend, Steve Jones, Rod Spittle, Jeff Maggert, and Willie Wood, who won here in 2012.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Jen Welter's days as an interim NFL coach are nearing an end. It's been an experience she calls "fantastic" and "a dream come true."

The first female to hold any kind of coaching position in the National Football League says she was accepted by all of those she worked with — players and coaches.

And she believes she has shown little girls that "even in the final frontier of sports, anything is possible."

SONOMA, Calif. (AP) — Sage Karam says he has sought counseling this week from a psychologist to deal with his emotions following the death of Justin Wilson.

Wilson died of a head injury Monday, a day after he was struck in the helmet by a piece of debris from Karam's car. Karam had spun into a wall and the shattered pieces of his car littered Pocono Raceway.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Seattle Mariners optioned struggling catcher Mike Zunino to Triple-A Tacoma on Friday and called up catcher John Hicks from their top affiliate.

Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said the team hopes to bring back Zunino to the big league level at some point. He was hitting .174 with 11 home runs and 28 RBIs.

IRVING, Texas (AP) — Dallas offensive lineman R.J. Dill, a third-year player who hasn't appeared in an NFL game, has been suspended four games for violating the league's policy against performance-enhancing drugs.

Dill said Friday that he failed a drug test in May, about six months after he said he underwent testosterone replacement therapy when he was not under contract with a team. He said the NFL denied his request for a therapeutic use exception.

DENVER (AP) — Colorado Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau, who's missed most of the season with a neck injury and concussion symptoms, begins a minor league rehab assignment with the Double-A New Britain Rock Cats on Friday night.

Morneau hasn't played since suffering whiplash and a concussion while diving for a ball in Anaheim on May 13.
