Tokyo organizers face more cost increases for 2020 Olympics

TOKYO (AP) — While Rio Olympic organizers are under immense pressure to finish preparations before Aug. 5, their Tokyo counterparts are already facing skyrocketing costs for an event four years away.

Tokyo 2020 organizing committee president Yoshiro Mori acknowledged at an executive board meeting this week the cost of building seven temporary venues for the Olympics has surged to an estimated $2.6 billion, up from an initial estimate of $690 million.

Cain hits better than he pitches as Giants beat Reds 9-7

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Matt Cain hit a three-run homer during his first win in more than two months, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds 9-7 on Tuedsday night.

Brandon Crawford had three hits and two RBIs, and Buster Posey and Denard Span added two hits apiece for the Giants. San Francisco won for only the second time since the All-Star break.

It had been longer than that for Cain.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bud Norris pitched shutout ball into the seventh inning, and the Los Angeles Dodgers held off the Tampa Bay Rays for a 3-2 win on Tuesday night.

Norris (6-9) allowed two hits and walked two in his longest outing since he was acquired in a June 30 trade with Atlanta. Yasmani Grandal hit a leadoff homer in the seventh as Los Angeles won for the fourth time in five games.

Tampa Bay scored two runs in the eighth, but the rally fizzled from there. Kenley Jansen worked the ninth for his 30th save in 35 chances.

Bullpen swap: Blue Jays send Storen to Mariners for Benoit

TORONTO (AP) — Looking to better their bullpen, the Toronto Blue Jays have acquired Joaquin Benoit from the Seattle Mariners for fellow right-hander Drew Storen and cash in a swap of struggling relievers.

The busy Blue Jays announced the trade Tuesday night, minutes after rallying to beat San Diego 7-6 in 12 innings. It was their second deal of the day: Hours earlier, Toronto obtained outfielder Melvin Upton Jr. and cash from the Padres for minor league right-hander Hansel Rodriguez.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Sonny Gray had a season-high eight strikeouts and overcame one volatile inning, Josh Reddick drove in three runs and the Oakland Athletics beat the Texas Rangers 6-3 on Tuesday night.

Reddick's two-run homer in the fourth was one of three homers by the A's. Coco Crisp and Marcus Semien also went deep.

Mets' Reyes strains side, expected to miss couple of games

NEW YORK (AP) — Mets third baseman Jose Reyes is expected to miss a couple of games after straining his side during a doubleheader split against St. Louis.

Reyes went 1 for 5 in the opener, then didn't play in a 3-1 win Tuesday night. After the second game, New York manager Terry Collins said Reyes had gone to the hospital with a Grade 1 intercostal strain on his left side.

Collins said Reyes was hurt while taking a swing in his final at-bat.

Brewers score 5 in 8th to beat Diamondbacks 9-4

MILWAUKEE (AP) — Scooter Gennett and Jonathan Villar each hit a two-run single in a five-run eighth inning that sent the Milwaukee Brewers to a 9-4 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night.

With the score tied at 4, the Brewers batted around and broke the game open on three hits and four walks against Arizona's bullpen.

Bodycam video shows Iowa football player searched in park

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Police have released body camera footage showing a University of Iowa football player being questioned by police who were searching for a robbery suspect.

The footage released Tuesday shows an encounter defensive end Faith Ekakitie described in a Facebook post earlier this week. He wrote that he was playing "Pokemon Go" in a public park when he was surrounded by police and searched at gunpoint. Ekakitie said he feared for his life but understood why police did what they did.
