Peterson's 24 points lead VMI past Tusculum, 88-76

LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — QJ Peterson scored 24, Julian Eleby added 16 on 6-of-9 shooting and VMI coach Dan Earl earned his first-career win as the Keydets rolled to an 88-76 victory over Tusculum on Tuesday night.

Peterson hit 7 of 12 field goals, including four 3-pointers, and Phillip Anglade finished with 12 points, on 6-of-8 shooting, and three blocked shots.

VMI (1-1) opened up an 18-8 lead when Peterson hit a 3 just more than five minutes into the game and closed the first half with a 13-0 run en route to a 58-29 lead at the break.

Abilene Christian charges back to beat Howard Payne 70-56

ABILENE, Texas (AP) — Jaylen Franklin had 15 points and Duran Porter 13 as Abilene Christian charged back in the second half to take a 70-56 victory over Division III Howard Payne on Tuesday night.

Jaren Lewis added 9 points while grabbing eight rebounds for the Wildcats (2-0).

Neal, Rinne help Predators beat Ducks 3-2

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — James Neal and Miikka Salomaki gave Nashville the lead, and Pekka Rinne stopped 38 shots to lead the Predators to a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night.

Shea Weber also scored as Nashville won for the third time in four games.

Rickard Rakell and Mike Santorelli had the goals for the Ducks, who have lost four of their last five. Frederik Andersen gave up three goals on 10 shots and was replaced in the second period by Anton Khudobin, who stopped all 11 shots he faced.

Zierden with 24 points, Creighton beats UTSA 103-78

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Isaiah Zierden made five 3-pointers and finished with a career-high 24 points, and Creighton rolled to a 103-78 victory over UTSA on Tuesday night.

Zierden was 7 of 13 from the floor and had four assists. Cole Huff scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, and James Milliken added 12 points for the Blue Jays (2-0).

Ryan Bowie had 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead UTSA (0-3). Gino Littles scored 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting and had five assists, and Nick Allen added 11 points for the Roadrunners.

Butler leads Norfolk State over Washington Adventist 78-58

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Jordan Butler had career-highs of 19 points, 14 rebounds and six blocks to lead Norfolk State over NAIA member Washington Adventist 78-58 on Tuesday night.

Butler was 6 of 11 from the floor and made all seven free throws attempts. Jeff Short scored 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting. Charles Oliver had 11 points and D'Shon Taylor chipped in 10 for the Norfolk State (1-1).

Bacon and Beasley lead Florida St past Jacksonville, 98-79

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) — Dwayne Bacon and Malik Beasley became the first Florida State freshmen to score over 20 points in their first two games in 30 years as the Seminoles defeated Jacksonville 98-79 on Tuesday.

Bacon, who is the ACC Rookie of the Week, had 27 points and nine rebounds while Beasley added 21 points.

Tat Hunter was the last Florida State player to accomplish the feat in November of 1985. It is the 11th time in Leonard Hamilton's 14 years at the helm that the Seminoles have started 2-0.

Nelson-Henry helps Penn slip past Delaware St., 60-54

DOVER, Del. (AP) — Darien Nelson-Henry scored 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting and Antonio Woods added 11 with six assists to help Penn pull away late for a 60-54 win over Delaware State on Tuesday night.

Sam Jones finished with 10 points and eight rebounds while Matt Howard scored 8 and grabbed nine boards for Penn (3-0).

Sprague, Ouellette lead Ohio past Ball State 48-31

ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — JD Sprague had 321 total yards and three touchdowns, A.J. Ouellette ran for a season-high 121 yards and two scores, and Ohio beat Ball State 48-31 on Tuesday night.

Sprague connected with Jordan Reid on two second-quarter touchdowns, of 7 and 60 yards, to give Ohio a 28-3 lead. Ball State scored on back-to-back possessions in the second half to get to 38-24, but Ohio had an answer each time — scoring on four straight drives.

Parenteau scores 2 to lead Maple Leafs past Avalanche, 5-1

TORONTO (AP) — P.A. Parenteau scored twice as Toronto had four power-play goals and a short-handed score in a 5-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night.

Bozak had his first power-play goal of the season, Leo Komarov had Toronto's first short-handed goal, and James van Riemsdyk also scored to help the Leafs win for the fourth time in five games. James Reimer stopped 34 shots for his fourth straight win.

The last time the Leafs scored four power-play goals was Jan. 7, 2011, in a 9-3 win at Atlanta.

Sam Houston State beats St. Thomas (Texas) 114-92

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — Dakarai Henderson had 27 points and Aurimas Majauskas added 21 and 11 rebounds as Sam Houston State beat NAIA's St. Thomas (Texas) 114-92 on Tuesday night.

Ameer Jackson contributed 18 points, Jovante' Spivey had 11 and Jamal Williams chipped in 10 for the Bearkats (1-1), who bounced back from an 85-50 season-opening loss to SMU Saturday.
