Daniel Richard Pickrell Sr., 63, of Norwich, passed away at 10:12 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2012 at The Ohio State University Hospital. He was born June 14, 1949, in Zanesville, a son of Laverne Estadt Pickrell of Zanesville and the late Richard Henry Pickrell. He had worked as a butcher for over 35 years for Big Bear. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge and was a devout Republican.
He devoted his life to raising his three children after losing his wife at the age of 28. He enjoyed spending the last years of his life surrounded by his children and grandchildren and was dearly loved. For those who knew him know he enjoyed a great political debate and possessed a wonderful sense of humor.
Surviving in addition to his mother are a son, Daniel R. (Shannon) Pickrell Jr. of Sunbury; two daughters, Amy (Chris) Rice of Norwich and Angie Pickrell of Zanesville; four grandchildren, Jacob and McKenzie Pickrell, Braden and Camden Rice; four sisters, Mary Lou Sekula, Janie Halaiko, Shirley Dattalo and Donna Harrison; four brothers, Ron Pickrell, David Pickrell, Gary Pickrell and Kevin Pickrell; and a sister-in-law, Cristi (David) Watson.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Brink Pickrell; and grandmother, Sophie Schockling.
Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday, September 28, 2012 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 W MILITARY RD., ZANESVILLE. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2012 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, 925 Main St., Zanesville with Father Martin Ralko as celebrant. Burial will be held at a later date at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
