Dorothy F. “Dodo” McDermott, 95, of Zanesville, passed away at 10:43 a.m. on Monday, March 11, 2013 at Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care. She was born on December 11, 1917, in Philo, a daughter of the late Clarence and Emma Seyerle Fitz. She graduated from Philo High School and went on to complete a degree in cosmetology. She later went on to be a teller for Mutual Federal where she retired. Dorothy’s hobbies included sewing, photography and she had an eye for finding four leaf clovers. She also loved to travel especially to Michigan where she and Mac spent summer vacations. Dorothy could also be found on a beach with her sisters. She was a very active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Philo.
Surviving are two sisters, Rose Fitz of Zanesville and Ruthe Harris of Madison, IN; a sister-in-law, Dottie Fitz of Madison, IN; and nieces and nephews, Don and Karen Good, Gail and Suzy Good, Karen Wilson, Danny and Kris Searls, John & Lynn Fitz, Pat & Sherrie Harris, Jerry and Trudy Land and families.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John R. “Mac” McDermott, who died in 1993; two sisters, Norma (Orville) Good and Gladys (Al) Sheppard; and three brothers, Russell (Marguerite) Fitz, Kenneth Fitz and Clarence Jr. (Joan) Fitz.
Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE with Mr. Frank Clifton, Lay Minister officiating. Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband in Duncan Falls Cemetery.
