George Edward Corder, 85 of Zanesville died suddenly following a short illness at Good Samaritan Hospital Thursday, February 18, 2010.
George was born January 2, 1925 in Salem, West Virginia, the fourth son of William E. and Arah Blye (Stutler) Corder, all of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Lynch) Corder of the home. Dorothy and George were married for 55 years. They have two children, Margie Barker of Reynoldsburg and David George Corder of Norfolk, Virginia. Also surviving are his grandchildren Jessica and Alex Marsh and Zander Barker.
George was retired from the Monongahela Power Company in West Virginia where he worked for forty years, first as a load dispatcher and later as a real estate representative. He was also an Army Veteran of the Korean War, having served eleven months in Korea.
George and Dorothy moved to Zanesville in 1988 to be closer to Margieâ€™s family. They made many good friends in this area. George loved singing in the church choir and he was a member of the Greater Zanesville Singers for thirteen years. He enjoyed many years volunteering for Meals on Wheels and the Muskingum County Visitors Center. He was a member of the Central Trinity United Methodist Church and the Philo-Duncan Falls Lions Club, where he was named a Melvin Jones Fellow in 2007.
Calling hours will be from 10am -11am on Saturday February 20, 2010 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 W MILITARY RD., ZANESVILLE, OH. Funeral services will be at 11am with Pastor Tom England officiating. A private burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
