Joseph Richard Walker, 81, of Zanesville, died at 10:45 P.M. on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born March 15, 1931, in Morgan County, a son of the late Joseph and Priscilla Sims Walker. He retired from AEP after 42 years of service as an Equipment Manager at Columbia Center. He was a veteran of the United States Marines. Joseph was also a member of Central Trinity United Methodist Church, the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of Ohio, and a Timber Run Grange member. His hobby and passion was woodworking.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia Taylor Scanlan Walker; two sons, Bob (Kay) Walker of Zanesville and Rich (Suzanne) Walker of Arizona City, AZ; a step-son Tim Scanlan of Zanesville; a step-daughter Judy Scanlan of Zanesville; four grandchildren, Matt Walker, Katherine (Kevin) Harmon, Renee Walker, and Joshua (Krystel) Walker; a step-grandchild Tiffany Scanlan; six great grandchildren; four brothers, Jim Walker, Don (Kathryn) Walker, John (Phyllis Ann) Walker, and Phil (Faye) Walker; four sisters, Mary (Jim) McConnell, Alice (Harold) Moran, Ruth (Don) Riddle, and Joyce (Arnie) Englebert; as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Carson Walker; and a brother Bill Walker.
Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 P.M. and 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Friday, November 2, 2012, at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 3, 2012 with his brother, Phillip Walker officiating. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
