Mary E . “Sis” Porter, 86 of Gratiot, died at 1:20 PM Saturday, May 29, 2010 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital following a sudden illness. She was born Saturday, September 15, 1923 in Zanesville the daughter of Elmus Van Allen and Hazel (Lucas) Van Allen. She married Robert L. Porter on November 10, 1940 and was a member of Fair Oaks Baptist Church. Mrs. Porter was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a former member of the Heather Golf and Country Club in Weeki Wachee, FL.
Mary is survived by one daughter: Carol Bates of Mt. Perry; one son: William R. “Bill” Porter of Zanesville; a son-in-law: John Dallner of Naperville, IL; two grandsons: Bruce (Tammy) Bates of Mt. Perry and Daniel (Karrie) Dallner of Naperville; one granddaughter: Amber Murvine of Glenford; two great-grandsons: Bo Bates and Chase Dallner; three great-granddaughters: Kyleigh and Nicolle Dallner, and Taylor Murvine; one great-great grandson: Dakota ”Cody” Joseph; three sisters-in-law: Bonnie Van Allen of Zanesville; Loraine Porter of Gratiot, Jeanne Porter of Georgia; two brothers-in-law: William (Betty) Porter of Newark and Howard Patterson of Gratiot
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband: Robert L. Porter who died November 17, 2003; one daughter: Sandra Dallner and one brother: William “Tootie” Van Allen; two sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law and two nephews.
Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at The Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue where Funeral Services will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday with Rev. Gerri Lampton officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or Genesis Morrison House Hospice in Mary’s memory.
