Mary Margaret MacDonald Russell, age 92, of New Concord, died August 25th, at The Inn at Olentangy Trail in Delaware, Ohio. She was born September 26, 1921, in Otsego, Ohio, and was the daughter of the late Mary Bessie and John Clark MacDonald. She graduated from Otsego High School and Muskingum College and was a Home Economics teacher, having taught several years in Dennison, Crooksville and West Muskingum High Schools. In addition, Mary worked as a Home Extension Agent in Bellefontaine.
She was a member of College Drive Presbyterian Church for over 60 years and loved singing in the church choir. She was an active member of Mother’s Club 1 for 55 years and was blessed by the fellowship of those women. She loved her water aerobics group and cherished those friendships for decades. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings, gardening, sewing, quilting and just loving her family and friends.
Raised on a farm during the years of the Great Depression, Mary’s life was one of unconditional love, acceptance, service to others, honesty and gratitude. She always placed the needs of others above her own. She had a beautiful, resilient spirit and strong faith. By example, her philosophy of life was passed on to her family. She was a true gift to all who were fortunate to have her in their lives.
She married Robert Russell (deceased) on August 27, 1949, and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great –grandmother. She will be greatly loved and missed for her gentle and generous nature. She is survived by daughters, Pat Langley of Dallas, Texas; Linda (Nicholas) Schmit of Delphos, Ohio; Mary (David) Bucknum of Washington, D.C.; and a son, Jim (Jeanine) Russell of Lewis Center, Ohio; grandchildren, Robert (Lauren) Langley, Kevin Langley, Jennifer Schmit, Alison (Robert) Dickson, Ryan (Stephanie) Schmit, Katharina Bucknum, Annamarie Bucknum, Alexandra Russell, James Russell, Jr., Christopher Russell, and Ryan Russell; great-grandchildren, Cameron Langley, Luke Langley, James Dickson, and Russell Dickson; brother, Edgar MacDonald of Monroe, Ohio; sister-in-law, Evelyn Bond of Takoma Park, MD; brother-in-law, Tom Russell of Northfield, MA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Isabel Hecker; brothers, Elmer (Mac) McDonald and Robert MacDonald; and son-in-law, Christopher Langley.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, August 31, from 3-6 PM at the Farus Funeral Home (formerly the Mock-Miller Funeral Home) in New Concord, Ohio, and for 30 minutes prior to the funeral at the church. Funeral services will be held at the College Drive Presbyterian Church in New Concord, Ohio, on Monday, September 1, at 10:30 AM.
