Mary R. Young Gompf, 91, expired August 20, 2014, at Zanesville. She was born May 12, 1923 in Jackson Township, Frazeysburg to the late George W. Miller and Nora M. Chaney Miller. She attended Frazeysburg schools and graduated in 1941. She graduated from Muskingum Area Joint Vocational School in 1968 as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at Good Samaritan Hospital, was a local Clinic Supervisor, nursed at Helen Purcell Home and retired from there in 1995 as Director of Admissions. She was a Protestant by faith.
Surviving are two sons, Kenny (Sylvia) Young of Frazeysburg, Russell L. Young of Reynoldsburg; seven grandchildren, Tracy (Mike) Hartshorn, of Zanesville, Annette (George) Upvall of Frazeysburg, Kenny (Lori) Young of Frazeysburg, Sheila Young of Athens, Great Grandchildren Sammie, Nicholas and Laklyn Upvall, Kenny and Amy Rich of Coshocton, Trey (Blair) Senter of Frazeysburg, Maddison and Allie Mattey of Chauncey; also two step-great-grandchildren, Wade and Carley Young of Frazeysburg and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband Russell Young in 1951 and second husband Charles W. Gompf in 1992; five brothers and five sisters and her special “furry” friend “Kitten” and Callie Cat.
Calling hours will be 11-1 P.M., Monday, August 25 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 W. MILITARY RD. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 in the Snouffer Chapel officiated by Pastor Matt Blau. Interment will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a donation to The Animal Shelter Society, Inc., 1430 Newark Rd., Zanesville, OH 43701 is requested. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
