Monte Marion â€œBuddyâ€ Ashby II, 74, of Zanesville, passed away January 6, 2014 at his residence. He was born November 24, 1939 in Charleston, WV, a son of the late Monte M. and Katherine Knapp Ashby. He was a restaurant owner having owned Bonanza restaurants in the Columbus area. Monte served his country and protected our freedoms while serving in the United States Navy having served on the USS Valley Forge Air Craft Carrier. Throughout his life, Monte volunteered as a Youth Sports Coach for 50 years, was a very active volunteer for West Muskingum Athletic Association, was a part of the Old Timers Baseball Association and a member of Brighton Presbyterian Church. Monte enjoyed attending his grandchildrenâ€™s sporting events, and was an avid West Virginia Mountaineer Fan.
Surviving are two sons, Steve (Wendy) Ashby and Greg (Kelly) Ashby both of Zanesville; 5 grandchildren Jordan, Andrew, Madison, Aaron and Benjamin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mary West.
Calling hours will be held from 6-8pm on Wednesday January 8, 2014 at, THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE, and one hour prior to services at 12:00 Noon on Thursday January 9, 2014 in the Snouffer Chapel with Pastor Ed Stern officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery with full military rites by the George Selsam Post 1058 of the American Legion.
