Richard Lee “Dick” Torbert, 80, of Newark, OH passed away Monday February 24, 2014 at his residence. He was born March 15, 1933 in Philo, OH a son of the late Floyd and Ruth Anderson Torbert.
Dick graduated from Capital University with a Bachelor of Science degree and was a retired teacher and Athletic Director at Licking Valley High School. He served his country and protected our freedoms while serving in the United States Air Force. Throughout his career he was inducted into the, Licking Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame, District 11 Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Licking County League Hall of Fame and the Philo Athletic Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife Jo Lynn Swain Torbert whom he married on August 21, 1965; two sons Todd (Michelle) Torbert of Hanover, OH and Rodd (Kristin) Torbert of Avon, OH; one sister Esther Monroe of Magnolia, OH and 5 grandchildren Callie, Zackary, Cade, Maxwell and Ashlee Torbert.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Roy and William Torbert and two sisters Joanna Osborne and Joyce Wentz.

Calling hours will be held 1-4 and 6-8 on Friday February 28, 2014 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD ZANESVILLE. Graveside services will be held at 10am Saturday March 1, 2014 at the Hanover Cemetery in Hanover, OH. A celebration of Dick’s life will be held on Sunday March 2, 2014, at the Licking Valley High School Dick Torbert Gymnasium, 100 Hainsview Drive NE, Newark, OH 43055, at 4pm with Charlie McMahan officiating.
