Richard N. Callihan, 90, of Duncan Falls, passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at his residence. He was born on April 24, 1922, at his maternal grandparentâ€™s home in Richland County, Ohio, a son of the late Albert L. and Bonita B. Darling Callihan. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a radio officer in the United States Merchant Marines on the North Atlantic. He was a graduate of Capital Radio Engineering Institute, and the State Department Foreign Service Institute, both in Washington, D.C. He was employed by the Department of State and later by the Central Intelligence Agency as a Telecommunications Officer, serving abroad in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Saipan, Turkey, Iran, Germany and Greece. He retired after 29 years of service and was awarded The Retirement Medallion of the Central Intelligence Agency. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and numerous genealogical and historical societies. He was a volunteer librarian at the Family History Center at the LDS Church.
Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Patricia Gainer Callihan, whom he married in 1945, of the home; two sisters, Jeanine (Kenton) Frash of Grove City and Micky Jackson of Crooksville; a brother, William (Becky) Callihan of Roseville; and several loving nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary (Richard) McConnell; a brother, Robert Callihan; and a brother-in-law, Robert Jackson.
Friends and family may call from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 18, 2013 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 128 South 7th Street, Zanesville with Rev. Mark Matzke officiating. Richard will be laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery.
