Roy Jacob Gilg, 93, of Zanesville, passed away on Friday April 5, 2013 at The Helen Purcell Home. Roy was born in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania on May 16, 1919, to the late Harry Edward and Mary Vensula Boltz Gilg. He retired from Cooper Industries- McGraw Edison as a Supervisor of Quality Control after 45 years of dedicated service. He served our Country and protected our freedom by serving in the United States Marines during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church where he served as President of Menâ€™s Brotherhood, Trustee, Official Board, and an usher for over 50 years. He was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife Viola Mae Darst Gilg of the home, a daughter Linda Deanne Coleman of Zanesville, a sister Gloria Gilg of Venice, Florida, two grandsons David Coleman and Steven Coleman, four Great-grandchildren Evan, Emily, Alex, and Aaron Coleman, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Harry.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Genesis Hospice & Palliative Care, 713 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.

Calling hours will be from 5-8 pm on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 1150 WEST MILITARY ROAD, ZANESVILLE. Funeral Services will be held at 1 pm on Monday, April 8, 2013 in The Snouffer Chapel with Pastor Tony Richard officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park.
