Ruth Evelyn (McCoy) Harlan DeGarmo, 89, of Duncan Falls, passed away Nov. 23, 2010 at her residence with her family by her side.
Ruth was born December 19, 1920 in Portsmouth, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Lula (Fields) McCoy. She worked for Curls grocery in Duncan Falls and as a cook for Philo High School, she was a quilter and loved playing cards; she was a 65+ year member of Olive branch #251 OES, a member of the twin cities garden club and she attended Duncan Falls United Methodist Church.
Ruth is survived by her 2 daughters Mary Lou (Roy) Harlan Williams and Janet (Donald) Harlan Staker and she was known as ‘Grandma John’ to her 7 grandchildren Kelly Williams and his fiancée (Tammy Harris), Lisa (Perry) Clark, Diane (Bob) Blake, Michael Williams, Timmy (Coleen) Staker, Stina (Jeff) McKendry and Scotty (Charlotte) Staker and her 8 great-grandchildren Erin Blake, Levi Staker, Tyler Blake, Mason Williams Jack McKendry, Luke McKendry, Racheal Staker and Ally Staker.
In addition to her parents Ruth is preceded in death by her 1st husband Ray G. Harlan who passed away Jan. 7, 1959; her 2nd husband John A. DeGarmo who passed away Jan. 1983; one son Ray G. Harlan who passed away in 1962 and her five brothers Floyd, John, Benjamin, Ted and Gordon McCoy.
Olive Branch # 251 of OES will hold services 5:45 pm Friday evening.
Visitations will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Friday, November 26, 2010 at the Thompson-Farus Funeral Home, Duncan Falls, where funeral services will be 11 am Saturday with Pastor Stephen Harrop officiating. Burial will follow in Duncan Falls Cemetery.
