Steven Gerard Hammond, 50, of Somerset, passed away at 8:54 a.m. Sunday, September 9, 2012 at the Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster. He was born January 24, 1962, in Zanesville, a son of the late Joseph L. and Julia Shoemaker Hammond. He had worked as a coal miner. He enjoyed playing the guitar, country music, watching the Cleveland Browns and working on antique cars.
Surviving are three sons, Steven, Jake and Michael Hammond; eight sisters, Mary Russell, Alberta Triona, Barbara Russell, Theresa Forester, Rita Sidwell, Margie Hammond, Julie Nutter and Lori Owen; four brothers, John, Jim, Ed and Paul Hammond; and his wife, Mina Smith Hammond of Kermit, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Alex Hammond; a sister, Martha Hammond; four brothers, Joe, Tom, Michael and Jerry Hammond; and a brother-in-law, Dave Nutter.
Friends and family may call from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at THE SNOUFFER FUNERAL HOME, 207 BURLEY ST., CROOKSVILLE. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 13, 2012 at St. Rose Catholic Church, 309 Main St., New Lexington with Father Dan Dury as Celebrant. Steven will be laid to rest at Rehoboth Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Snouffer Funeral Home, 207 Burley St., Crooksville to help defray expenses.
