Wilford E. “Dick” Burkett, of Chandlersville, passed away at 12:55 am Sunday February 7, 2010 at Willow Haven Care Center, Zanesville.
Dick was born April 6th 1924 in Roseville, the son of the late Charles and Anna Dickerson Burkett. He worked for 16 years at Frank Paul Coal Mine and then for C.W. Taylor Construction until retiring in 1986. Dick was Protestant by faith and he served his country in the US Army, serving during WWII.
Dick is survived by his wife of 62 years, Catherine (Harlan) Burkett, whom he married January 31, 1948; a son Robert (Kim) Burkett of Chandlersville; a daughter Jennilee (Roger) Dusenberry of Crooksville; a sister Vada Roach of LA; his grandchildren Melissa West, Robert Burkett Jr, Ashley Burkett, John Michael Collins, Amy Collins, Bill Trout, Staci Allison; six great grandchildren; a devoted friend Francis Rupe, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a grandson Troy Collins, his brothers Arthur, Charles, and Robert Burkett and his sisters Alta Carsey, Mildred Harlan, and Freda Thomas.
Visitations will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Monday at the Thompson-Farus Funeral Home, Duncan Falls, where funeral services will be 1 pm Tuesday, with Pastor Sturman Moore and Pastor Tim Monteith officiating. Burial will follow in Duncan Falls Cemetery with full military services by George Selsam – VFW Post 1051.
