The Zanesville- Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce met with the Muskingum County Commissioners to talk about the Lorena Sternwheeler.

Chamber Vice President, Kelly Ashby, says that every year members of her office will give the commissioners an update on tourism and the economic benefits that the Lorena brings into town. For 2013 the Lorena provided nearly 200 rides.

As we close out 2013, there is plenty that comes to mind when recalling the top news stories that WHIZ has covered over the past twelve months.

There were stories of humanitarian work, helping hands and various generous benefits for different causes. There was economic growth, newly elected officials, major flooding in perry county and some high profile court cases such as Richard Klein and LaFonse Dixon.

But there were some other. . . more sinister headlines.

As the end of the year quickly creeps upon us, The Muskingum County Commissioners are taking a look back.

The 23rd Festival of Trees has come to an end.

The annual Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce Fundraiser was held at the Muskingum County Welcome Center and wrapped up Friday night. Visions of magical toy soldiers, sugar plum fairies and mischievous mice danced across the stage at this year's performance of the Nutcracker.

For more than 25 years, members of the East Central Ohio Dance Theater have brought the ballet alive for residence of Zanesville at Secrest Auditorium.

Workers at Axion Recycled Plastics were evacuated from the factory on Monday following a machinery fire.

At around 1:30 p.m. fire crews from New Concord, Zanesville, Washington and Perry Townships responded to 4005 All American Way. Once there, they quickly contained the flames.

"It just stayed about in a 10 by 10 area, but because of the nature of the beast , the product in here it's going to create a lot of smoke," said New Concord Fire Chief, Brent Gates.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for our area starting at 10 a.m Tuesday, and the Ohio Department of Transportation is getting ready.

For more than 25 years the South Zanesville Business Association Parade has provided the local community with a spectacular holiday display.

This year the parade's theme was "It's a Hollywood Christmas" and took several months to execute.

A local organization visited WHIZ's Z92 Radio Station to set up headquarters for their annual fundraising event.

For more than 40 years,  the Zanesville Jaycee's have participated in C Day, an event where members  pick up can goods, toys, and clothes from the community and donate them to the local Salvation Army . This year they were able to pick up even more items for the good cause.
