Since 2006, the United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan Counties has been providing free tax preparation services for residents. Executive director Meg Deedrick, said the free service was started to increase income for families and households in the three county region the United Way serves.

One local organization is helping families who are facing financial hardships.

The 2-1-1 Call Center servicing our area is proud to announce a call increase for the month of September.

The 24/7 service sponsored by United Way of Muskingum, Perry and Morgan counties had 1,063 incoming calls last month. There has been a 65% increase in call volume since September of 2009.

The phones have been ringing off the hook at the 211 call center.

During the month of January, the call center saw nearly 1,000 phone calls.

"During these cold weather months we've been really busy," said Call Center Manager Audrey Forester. "Our calls have been coming in a lot because of the inclement weather we've had with the school closings. So folks have been dialing in, calling 211 to find out what level we're at or what the color code is for muskingum...

Area residents will have another way to get information about inclement weather.

The Southeast Ohio 211 Information Line will expand to answer questions relating to bad weather.

"We've been hearing already the levels and the warnings for snow such," said Audrey Foster of the 211 service. "We'll be aware of that and be another resource in the community, so folks if they have questions, about that or school closings, we'll have that information on 211."
