In honor of 9/11, first responders in Muskingum County were treated to a free lunch Wednesday afternoon.

Police, Ohio State Highway Patrol, EMS, Firefighters and other first responders enjoyed a cookout at the YMCA Park Central put on by the College Guides of Scholarship Central, a branch of AmeriCorp.

Community members gathered at the Muskingum County Courthouse on Sunday to say a prayer for those lost during the attacks on September 11th.

This is the fourth Patriot Day for the Muskingum County's branch of Cry Out America. The national program was created the year after the attacks by the American Awakening Alliance and people join at courthouses around the nation in remembrance.

Next Wednesday, the Muskingum County Community Foundation is honoring first responders by serving them lunch at the YMCA's Park Central.

"With it being on September 11th, when you know, so many first responders lost their lives, we wanted to sort of honor the first responders, said Alex Sherman of AmeriCorps Ohio College Guide. "Being in this community, particularly, I think that first responders are really valued, they're a very valuable part of the community."

Many Americans can pinpoint exactly where they were when the twin towers collapsed, but children in elementary school are too young to remember.

"They've told us that many people were killed," said Haeley Barr.

Barr has learned what she knows about 9/11 from her teachers at Dresden Elementary.

"These children were not alive, and I think they're relying on us to make sure that it's something that doesn't get forgotten," said Elaine Ross.

American flags will soon be on display in front of many homes to commemorate the ten year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

A lot of those flags are assembled at Annin Flagmakers in Coshocton.  Director of Operations Rick Merrell said Annin couldn't keep up with flag sales in the weeks following the attacks.

The 10th anniversary of the 9-11 Terrorist Attacks is next month and an event is planned to help you observe that tragic day.

Residents are planning a way to commemorate September 11th.

With the historical day only weeks away, Awakening America Alliance is hosting Cry Out America Prayer Gathering for those lives lost on September 11th, 2001.
