The Guernsey County Sheriff's Office is investigating the abduction and sexual assault of an adult female from the Dallas Pike, West Virginia area.

It happened in the afternoon hours on Sunday, February 21st.  The sheriff's office says the female victim believes she was drugged but does recall speaking with a "homeless male" along the road on Dallas Pike and providing him money.

Wednesday is National Amber Alert Awareness Day, a day that was inspired by the unsolved Arlington, TX abduction and murder case of 9 year old Amber Hagerman.

The Amber Alert system was created in 1996 to instantly prompt the entire community to assist in the search and safe recovery of a missing child. Muskingum County Sheriff's Captain Jeff Lecocq said the early stages of an abduction are the most crucial.

Muskingum County Sheriff, Matt Lutz says the drug deal happened early this morning in Zanesville. Two Muskingum County residents were selling prescription drugs to four males who live in other counties and then attempted to rob them. The two Muskingum County residents were able to get money from them and then took off.

"There were a male and a female from Muskingum County that live here had made a prearranged drug deal with four out-of-county residents," said Sheriff Lutz....

The idea of a child being abducted is every parent's nightmare. WHIZ's Katie Jeffries spent time with the Muskingum County Sheriff today to get tips on moves your children can use to stay safe.

It is physically impossible for a child to over power an adult, but with the right techniques, every child has a chance to get away from a possible abduction safely.

A Newark Police report shows a suspect tried to abduct a 15-year-old girl on two different occasions.

The first occurred in front of the Newark YMCA on Tuesday afternoon. The report says a suspect, driving a silver Dogde Dakota truck, asked the girl if she'd like a ride.

The second incident occurred yesterday morning on Hoover Street. The report says the same suspect stopped the truck and told the victim she'd "better get in...or else".

The victim got away...
