Following a summit in November discussing the heroin epidemic in the state, a community action plan has been put in place. The summit was held in Cleveland to educate the public about the dangers of using heroin and to create a plan to combat the growing problem. Some of the solutions include focusing on treatment, improved data sharing, and an increase in funding.

There's word of a cheaper form of heroin called, "Krocodil" that causes the drug users skin to rot, coming to the U.S. Executive Director of Muskingum Behavioral Health Steve Carrel, says the drug is a mixture of codeine, lighter fluid, gasoline or paint thinner, and gets its notorious name by turning skin green.

A meeting was held this week for a new group trying to make forward progress in the battle against drug and alcohol addiction.

The Drug and Alcohol Coalition brings together law enforcement, health officials, public officials, concerned citizens and many others to shed light on Muskingum county's abuse problems.

"In doing this this way the whole community gets involved and will have a greater impact, we as a group will have a greater impact on the drug and alcohol program....

Before last week Charlie Sheen was best known for his role on Two and a Half Men. In the last week, all that has changed. He lost his job, his children and has graced headlines.

Steve Carrell of Muskingum Valley Behavioral Health feels his reactions to addiction treatment may affect other addicts. Carrel says he cannot diagnose Sheen as being an addict because he is not able to interview him, but he does say Sheen has signs of being an addict.
