The Zanesville Community joined the rest of the Country in remembering the 13th Anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

Area first responders were honored during a luncheon Thuesday at Park Central on Adams Lane. It was hosted by AmeriCorps and the Muskingum County Community Foundation. Burgers, hot dogs, wings and other food was served to our local heroes in appreciation for their work. Ashley Larimer says events like this help us to remember our local service men and women.

Scholarship Central and the Muskingum County Community Foundation received a grant that will allow them to hire 5 people to become Americorps Ohio College Guides.
 

The job will begin August 4th and continue through the following 11 months.

The Red Cross and AmeriCorps advise families to make a disaster plan, choose an out-of-town contact and come up with escape routes and safe places to meet in case an emergency happens.

Americorps Boxes could be found for weeks around Zanesville that were collecting books to donate to local schools and non profit organizations.

The book drive turned out better than the Americorps College Completion Coaches anticipated, collecting more than 2,000 books.

College graduates looking for job experience and a chance to change lives can apply for open positions through a grant program.

A project that began in area schools is now asking the community to get involved.

This week marks Americorps Service week. Locally, the Americorps College Guides created a project to help our troops. They along with students have collected items to be sent to the Ohio National Guard Troop currently serving in Afghanistan.

It's national "Make a Difference Day" and residents across Southeast Ohio are doing just that.
