ZANESVILLE, Ohio- The United States celebrated its independence two days ago with barbecue, beer, and fireworks. But along with the red, white, and boom pets became startled.
Experts said the July 4th holiday is the highest holiday for lost pets. Loud fireworks and our four-legged family members do not mix. Pets may get scared by the loud noises caused by the fireworks and tend to run away. The animal shelter society has recently seen an increase in lost dogs....
We stopped by the animal shelter and with heavy hearts they remember one of their own.
"She was the shelter. She was our mascot here. And our inspirational leader here. And certainty her recent death is going to be a lost to all of us. Daisy was not a certified therapy dog. But she certainly seem to understand when staff was having a down day," said Animal Shelter Executive Director Jody Murray.

Dog licenses for 2016 are now for sale in Muskingum County.
Anyone in the county who owns a dog three-months or older must purchase a dog license by January 31 to avoid a penalty. Muskingum County Auditor, Debra Nye, said if you don't have a license on your pup by February 1, the price doubles.
