The Gant Foundation is hoping to reach a wider audience with the story of Nelson T. Gant and they've teamed up with a local production company to create the motion picture 'Marriage During Slavery' to tell the story from a new perspective.

The 30 minute video shares the story of Gant's wife, Anna Maria, and the couple's attempt to escape. It all leads up to a landmark trial where a judge first recognized slave marriage as a legitimate union.

The 14th Annual Lincoln Luncheon commemorated the birthday's of President Abraham Lincoln and the late Dr. Harley Flack, a Zanesville native who was the fourth president of Wright State University. The luncheon, which was held at the Zanesville Country Club, also served as a fundraiser for the PURE Center. President of the PURE Center, Liesta Walker, called the luncheon a "true community event."

A local girl from Zanesville High School won two scholarships for her high academic standards.

Andrea Ross is the recipient of both the Judge Perry B. Jackson Scholarship that was established in 1991 and the Minority Business Association Scholarship that is provided by funds collected at the annual Ribfest. Both scholarships were given through the Nelson T. Gant foundation. Ross says she worked hard to receive these scholarship.
