A local aviation icon and legend was honored with a statue at The Works museum in Newark Saturday.

Jerrie Mock was the first woman to fly solo around the world in 1964, not to be confused with Amelia Earhart, who flew across the Atlantic ocean almost 40 years prior. Mock was a resident of Newark before making her coast to coast journey.

As you returned home from your holiday weekend destinations, you probably saw more cruisers on the roadways, but did you know you were being watched from above?

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is taking to the air on this Labor Day. Its aviation section has a dozen planes that are used across the state.
