Firefighters from multiple departments and some helpful neighbors spent hours battling a barn blaze Tuesday afternoon in Salt Creek Township.

A fire started in the barn of Carl Longstreth at 4140 Salt Creek Drive around 4 p.m.

A lightning strike is being blamed for a massive barn fire in Guernsey County Tuesday afternoon.

It happened just before 1 p.m. near U.S. 22 and State Route 800.

Antrim Volunteer Fire Chief Donald Warnock says his department along with three other nearby departments responded to the fire.

He says when crews arrived on the scene they realized that they could not get their tankers near where the barn was located.

An area man's story is taking on national interest days after what is believed to be a hate crime arson fire destroys his barn killing eight horses.

Calls have been pouring into Whitehouse Insurance in McConnelsville in an outpouring of support for Brent Whitehosue who lost his show Quarter horses in a fire Sunday night. He's received calls from national media, from supporters in Florida, California and Washington and was mentioned on the website for the Ellen DeGeneres show.

A barn in Coshocton County is a total loss after a fire.

It happened at 15287 State Route 60 just a few miles inside the Coshocton County border.

Dresden Fire Chief Carl Archer says a passerby called in the fire around 4 p.m.

He says he could see smoke from the fire from his station nearly four miles away. By the time crews arrived it was fully invovled.

All animals were able to get out of the barn.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
