The Muskingum Recreation Center opens this month and rec leaders are preparing for its big debut.

The Muskingum Recreation center will be open in less than two months.

Executive Director, Beth Chapman says the facility will open to the general public on April 1st. The project will take around 13 months to complete in total and Chapman says everything is coming together smoothly despite the inclement weather.

Members of the Genesis Lifestyle and Fitness Center met with the Muskingum County Commissioners to discuss the transition into their new facility.

The Muskingum Recreation Center on the OUZ- Zane State campus is expected to open for current members of the Genesis Lifestyle and Fitness Center near the end of March and for the general public in early April. Organizers are changing their corporate and regular memberships options to reflect changes to the facility.

On Monday, a truck-load of 17 steel beams for the future natatorium made their way from Columbus to Zanesville. The massive beams were welded onto the recreation center and the executive director, Beth Chapman, says Monday was an important day for the community.

"We've really planned very hard for four years for this aquatic facility to be built and it's coming into full motion and today's a big day. We're placing the steel on the natatorium," said Chapman.

Father's day is not until Sunday but one organization started the celebration early.

Forever Dads threw its All Star Dad's Day early Saturday. The event has taken place for the last 10 years. Beth Chapman is a volunteer at Dad's Day and says she was compelled to get involved.

"I had luckily a very influential father and I know the importance of trying to support the father kid connection, " said Chapman
