The Ohio Department of Natural Resources cuts the ribbon to unveil the newly repaved 4.2 mile bike path through Blackhand Gorge. 

Blackhand is one of the state's 136 state nature preserves and is the only one that features a bike trail.

Work begins Monday, September 16, at Blackhand Gorge to repair their over four mile bike path.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said beginning Monday the trail that runs the length of the gorge will close until the project is completed.

The improvements were made possible after ODNR and the Friends of Blackhand Gorge reached an agreement with Enterprise Product Partners on an appropriate path for the ATEX Pipeline.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Enterprise Products Partners and an organization that protects Blackhand Gorge agree to terms allowing a pipeline to pass over part of the property.

The agreement between ODNR and the Friends of Blackhand Gorge will allow the Appalachia to Texas Pipeline to cross the preserved land without causing harm to the property.

They also agreed to appropriate compensation for access to the land.
