Libraries are no longer just a place to go sit and read. A recent push has been making libraries more interactive.

Checking out a book at four area hotels is now as easy as checking into your room.

The Muskingum County Library System and the Visitors Bureau have joined together to give books to hotels for guests to enjoy during their stay in Muskingum County. Assistant Director of the Library System, Blair Tom, explained how this works.

Flipping open a book doesn't always have to be about school. First grade teacher, Marla Walker said it can also be fun.

"Just trying to have fun and inspiring the children to want to read everyday."

The Muskingum County Library System is changing limitations on renewing the loan period for borrowed books.

The Muskingum County Library System wants to give you a chance to clear your record. 

As a way of making Friday the 13th lucky, the library system is giving you the chance to clear one fine off of your card. It also is a chance for the library to recover materials that may have been misplaced by customers due to the winter weather, holidays or school closings.

The best of the year, it's something spread to many different mediums. Monday, the Muskingum County Library System announced it's top picks of 2014.

The lists break down into different genres including both adult and juvenile fiction and non fiction and also a young adult category. Cardholders at the Muskingum County Library System can now download more music each week from the library's website.

In the past, people have been able to download three songs a week through Freegal on the library's website. Now, that number is five a week. This comes as the library continuously strives to improve it's digital presence.

While area kids take part in the summer reading program, winter's the time for adults to crack open the pages of a book. 

The Muskingum County Library System is once again offering their "Book bags to Go" program. Each of the 750 bags available contain three books, each of a certain genre. 

Adults check-out the bag of their choice, read and return the books and keep the bag. The library began the winter program do to response from adult readers.

Tax season will soon be upon us and there will be some changes regarding IRS forms at the Muskingum County Library.

There have been significant cuts in the IRS appropriations in the 2015 Omnibus Appropriations Bill. This means that the library is unable to receive the quantity of paper forms that they have in years past. Assistant Director of the Library System, Blair Tom told us what forms will be available.
