The Ohio Department of Transportation and Muskingum County have been awarded a grant of more than a half million dollars for a bridge replacement project.

Congressman Bill Johnson announced Wednesday that the $557,600 grant from the Federal Highway Administration will be used to replace the bridge on County Road 7/Cannelville Road.

Johnson said the money will be used to fix the problematic bridge and make the area more accessible for residents and travelers.

A meeting about the Philo-Duncan Falls Bridge was held Thursday, November 13, at Philo Jr. High school.

The meeting was led by Muskingum County Engineer, Doug Davis, who shared his goals and plans for the future of the 60 year old bridge, that was only intended to be open for 50 years. The Muskingum County Engineers Office says a truck accident has forced the closing of an area bridge. It happened Monday night on Piper Road. Officials say a semi tractor trailer crashed into the bridge and damaged it so heavily that it now must be replaced. Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis is at the scene of the accident to access the damage to the bridge. Crews have also been called to pull the semi from the streambed.

A local bridge will see a facelift in 2010.
