As work begins on the Philo bridge, there is a concern about the state of other bridges in Muskingum County.

When a bridge nears failure, the safety of thousands of travelers could be at risk. There are currently 420 open bridges in the county, and Muskingum County Engineer Doug Davis says many are in need of repair -- with little money in the budget to do the work,

The Philo-Duncan Falls Bridge is being inspected to make sure it's safe for the nearly 3,000 drivers who use it every day.

Governor John Kasich Thursday announced a new 120-million dollar effort to fix and replace locally owned bridges.  In Muskingum County three bridges are on the list and in the City of Zanesville one bridge is part of the deal.  The city bridge is on Muskingum Avenue over Chaps Runs.  The county bridges are Wilson Road over Brush Creek, Coopermill Road over Thompson Run and Foxfire Drive over Thompson Drive.  Work is expected to start next year.  The funds...

In a meeting with the Muskingum County Commissioner's, county engineer Doug Davis said his office has recently replaced a number of structures and torn down bridges, and replaced them with culverts. But the main topic was money and how to generate more funds to replace some of the county's deteriorating bridges including the Philo Bridge.

Some bridges in Muskingum County will be getting a overhaul this construction season.

On Monday, Matt Russell, from the Muskingum County Engineers Office spoke to Commissioners on two major bridge improvement plans.

The most expensive plan calls for a replacement of the Roseville Bridge on Main Street, costing an estimated 1.5 million dollars.
