Maysville point guard Brooke Smith inked a letter of intent to Ashland University today, joining a Lady Eagles squad that captured the Division II National Championship just two seasons ago.

"They're a close-knit family and I knew I wanted to be a part of something like that," Smith said of Ashland, comparing the team camaraderie to that of the Lady Panthers. "The coaches care; the teammates care."

Our three month fitness challenge has come to a close. Since the beginning of June members of the WHIZ staff and Muskingum Recreation Center have worked to see who can become more fit. Friday, I found out if I rose to the challenge.

Going into this venture I had two goals: lose weight and get in shape. I'm proud to say after taking my post fitness assessment I improved 30 points. Okay, so I wasn't at the top of the WHIZ team, I didn't lose as much as I wanted, but it's a...

I spent the first week of my challenge working out without a fitness plan. I lost 1.36 percent of my starting weight. So, to help get me to my final goal and help the WHIZ team defeat the Muskingum Recreation Center's team, I met with a trainer.

"I would...

Today marks the first official day of our WHIZ Fitness Challenge. The Muskingum Recreation Center has challenged WHIZ to see who'll be more fit by the end of August.

If you're working out with us at home or are thinking about getting back into shape we have some tips for you.

My cellphone weight tracker said the WHIZ staff and the Muskingum Recreation Center have 84 days to get into shape and a week until our first weigh-in. I took my assessment test Friday.
