Zanesville City Council's Budget Committee held it's first meeting of 2012 Tuesday.

The committee met to discuss amendments to be made with the funding for city departments, and is required to have the final budget in place by March 31st. Chairman Steve Kilpatrick said the meeting took place a little later than usual this year.

Zanesville has a new budget committee chairman, and he already has his work cut out for him.

Steve Kilpatrick has replaced former chairman David Tarbert.  The committee met on Thursday to discuss year-to-date numbers.

"In terms of tax revenues versus the budget for 2011 and also expenditures, both of those parts are looking okay year-to-date," said Kilpatrick.

Union reps, City Council members and city administrators gather to discuss how they are planning to cover a $500,000 shortfall in Zanesville's 2011 budget.

That shortfall, however, has been cut from a much larger figure thanks to the bi-annual inheritance tax.

The city of Zanesville Budget Committee is making decisions on what recommendations they will give to the Budget and Finance Director to be presented to City Council.

The Zanesville City Auditor and Treasurer proposed their 2010 budget Wednesday night which would eliminate all overtime.

The Zanesville City Treasurer, Paul DuBeck, says in the budget he is proposing there is no money for overtime, training or travel.

"It is a budget that is going to require everybody to watch every nickel and dime that is spent this year as well as next year," says DuBeck.
